Straightforward Setup
Supply the appropriate water and electrical connections for your model, position the cooler and you're ready to begin using the system.
Straightforward setup and routine care help keep your Cool Boss evaporative air cooler ready when the heat arrives.
Direct evaporative cooling uses a relatively straightforward combination of airflow, water circulation and evaporative media.
Routine care still matters, but Cool Boss maintenance is centered around practical tasks such as managing water quality, keeping the unit clean and inspecting or replacing evaporative media as needed.
Maintenance needs vary with operating conditions, water quality, frequency of use and the individual Cool Boss model, so always follow the instructions for your equipment.
Supply the appropriate water and electrical connections for your model, position the cooler and you're ready to begin using the system.
Keep the reservoir, water system and evaporative media clean and inspect the unit periodically for normal wear or buildup.
Evaporative media is a service item. Inspect it regularly and replace it according to condition and the recommendations for your equipment.
Portable Cool Boss units don't require the ductwork associated with a permanently installed central air-conditioning system.
Depending on the model and application, setup generally involves positioning the cooler, providing water and connecting it to the appropriate electrical supply.
Some Cool Boss models support a continuous water connection with automatic water-level control, reducing the need to manually refill the reservoir during operation.
Always use the electrical supply, water connection and operating procedure specified for your individual model.
The exact procedure varies by model, but portable evaporative cooling avoids the extensive ductwork associated with central HVAC installation.
Place the unit where it has suitable access to fresh air and can direct airflow toward the area you want to cool.
Fill the reservoir or use an approved continuous water connection when supported by the specific model.
Connect the unit to the electrical supply specified for the model and follow the operating instructions before use.
Inspect the media for mineral buildup, deterioration or reduced water distribution. Replace it when its condition or the equipment instructions indicate replacement is needed.
Check the reservoir, pump, water distribution components and connections for cleanliness, buildup and proper operation.
Water quality affects the amount of mineral buildup that develops over time. Preventive water treatment and routine cleaning can help manage deposits.
Periodically inspect the cooler for debris, loose components, damaged cords, water leaks or other conditions that should be addressed before operation.
When the unit will be out of service, follow the model-specific instructions for draining, cleaning and storage.
The water running through an evaporative cooler can leave mineral deposits behind as evaporation occurs.
How quickly buildup develops depends in part on local water quality and how frequently the cooler operates.
Cool Boss recommends preventive attention to mineral deposits. Appropriate mineral treatment and routine cleaning can help keep the water system and evaporative media in better condition over time.
Evaporative media is central to the cooling process because it creates the wet surface through which incoming air passes.
Over time, mineral deposits, dirt and normal wear can affect the condition of the media. The appropriate replacement interval depends on water quality, operating conditions and usage.
Inspect the media as part of routine maintenance rather than relying on a single replacement interval for every application.
A little routine attention helps keep an evaporative cooler ready for the next hot day.
Monitor the reservoir and water system for sediment, deposits and debris.
Check evaporative media for buildup, wear and proper water distribution.
Keep air inlets and outlets free of obstructions that could interfere with airflow.
Look for damaged components, leaks or other conditions that should be corrected before operating the cooler.
This page provides a general overview of evaporative-cooler maintenance. Service procedures, electrical requirements, cleaning instructions and maintenance intervals can vary by model and operating environment. Refer to the documentation for your equipment before performing maintenance.

Every shop owner dreads the moment his or her A/C goes out. Employees suffer, productivity falls and health risks due to heat exposure increase exponentially. On hot days, air conditioners need to work extra hard to maintain workable room temperatures, something you don’t need to worry about with air coolers. Running off simple 110V outlets, Cool Boss works the same no matter how hot it gets outside. In fact, hotter incoming air means cooler temperatures, as the process of evaporation is more effective when the Cool Boss’s water drip makes contact with hot, dry air. The swamp cooler motor that powers the Cool Boss fan blades doesn’t work any harder in the heat, and it won’t cost you more to operate. Finally, because Cool Boss features a rugged construction and simple design, it will require very little maintenance over time.
To keep your Cool Boss in tip-top shape, we recommend purchasing mineral treatment as a preventative measure against the buildup of tap water mineral deposits that gather over time. Other than that, there’s very little work you’ll never need to do on your portable air cooler.
It’s misleading to say installing our swamp cooler is easy to install, because installation is virtually non-existent. When your Cool Boss arrives, simply fill the reservoir with tap water—you can even connect a hose that will auto-shutoff when the tank is full, and plug it into an electrical outlet. That’s it! You’re done!
We recommend stocking up with some replacement evaporative media. They need to be changed periodically. Other than that, there’s really not much to be said about upkeep! Swamp coolers pretty much run themselves.
