Cool Boss Product Safety & General Warnings
Please read the complete Installation and Operation Manual or User Guide supplied with your specific Cool Boss product before installation, setup, operation, maintenance or repair.
Cool Boss products include different types of cooling and air-moving equipment, and safety requirements vary by model. The information on this page provides general safety guidance and does not replace the instructions, warnings, specifications or requirements in your product's manual.
Failure to follow the instructions and safety precautions for your specific product could result in property damage, product damage, serious injury or death. Make sure everyone who installs, operates, maintains or services the equipment reads and understands the applicable manual before proceeding.
Be Safe
Cool Boss products are designed and manufactured with safety in mind. Safe use also depends on proper installation or setup, training, inspection, maintenance and responsible operation.
Do not install, set up, operate, maintain or repair Cool Boss equipment without first reading and understanding the instructions and safety labels applicable to your product.
Different Cool Boss products have different installation and operating requirements. Always follow the manual supplied with your specific model.
Owner Responsibility
To maintain Cool Boss equipment properly and help ensure operator safety, the product owner is responsible for:
Following all applicable installation, setup, operation and maintenance instructions.
Making sure installation and use comply with applicable local, state and federal codes, regulations, electrical requirements, fire codes and building requirements where applicable.
Making sure operators understand the safety instructions and product warning labels.
Making sure operators are properly trained and supervised when required.
Inspecting equipment regularly for damaged, missing, loose or worn components.
Removing equipment from service when a condition exists that could affect safe operation.
Using approved replacement parts.
Keeping safety labels clean and visible.
Keeping the applicable manual available to anyone who operates or services the product.
Before You Begin
Inspect your Cool Boss product before installation, setup or operation. Do not use equipment with damaged or missing components, damaged electrical wiring or power cords, cracked or damaged fan blades, or other conditions that could interfere with safe operation.
For freight-delivered equipment, inspect the shipment before signing the bill of lading. If components are missing or damaged, have the carrier document the condition before accepting the shipment.
For products requiring installation, use the proper tools, lifting equipment, mounting hardware and procedures specified in the product manual.
Electrical Safety
Electrical requirements vary by Cool Boss product and model. Always verify the voltage and electrical requirements shown in your product manual and on the product identification label before connecting power.
Never operate Cool Boss equipment with damaged wiring, a damaged power cord or a damaged plug. Where a grounded connection or GFCI-protected circuit is specified, never defeat or bypass that protection.
Disconnect electrical power before inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting or repair. Some products, particularly HVLS fan systems, can contain hazardous voltage even when the fan is stopped. Electrical service on those systems must be performed by qualified personnel as specified in the product manual.
Do not assume an extension cord is permitted. Some portable evaporative coolers provide specific extension-cord requirements when one must be used, while extension-cord use is prohibited for Cool Boss HVLS ceiling fans. Follow the instructions for your specific product.
Moving Parts and Fan Safety
Keep hands, body parts, loose clothing, tools and other objects away from moving fan components.
Never operate equipment with cracked, damaged, loose, excessively worn or improperly installed fan components.
Portable Cool Boss units should be positioned securely before operation. On models equipped with locking casters, lock the required casters before starting the fan.
HVLS ceiling fans require additional precautions because of their size, mounting height and rotating blades. Maintain the clearances specified in the applicable manual and never operate an HVLS fan that is damaged, oscillating abnormally or otherwise operating unsafely.
Water and Moisture Safety
Water requirements vary across the Cool Boss product line.
Portable evaporative coolers use water as part of the cooling process, but their motors and electrical components must still be protected from unwanted moisture. Never spray electrical components or the exterior of the unit with water unless specifically directed by the product manual.
Make sure evaporative media, splash guards, reservoirs, pumps and water connections are installed and used according to the instructions for your model.
HVLS ceiling fans and their controllers must not be operated in wet conditions or sprayed with water.
Portable Evaporative Cooler Safety
For Cool Boss portable evaporative air coolers:
Use the product only for its intended purpose.
Make sure evaporative media is properly installed before operation.
Lock the required casters before starting the fan.
Keep electrical components protected from water.
Maintain adequate airflow and ventilation.
Keep the unit away from open flames, sparks and flammable materials.
Inspect the fan, power cord, plug and other components before operation.
Follow the water supply, reservoir, electrical and maintenance requirements specified for your model.
Exact requirements vary by model. Always refer to the manual supplied with your Cool Boss evaporative cooler.
HVLS Ceiling Fan Safety
Cool Boss HVLS commercial ceiling fans require careful attention to installation, electrical connections, mounting, clearances and structural conditions.
HVLS fans are intended for indoor use. Keep personnel and objects outside the clearances specified in the product manual. Do not install or operate the fan where water, flammable or corrosive gases, or other prohibited contaminants can enter the motor or controller.
Do not substitute fan blades, controllers or other critical components. Do not alter Variable Frequency Drive settings or modify the fan structure unless specifically authorized by Cool Boss.
Always disconnect and lock out electrical power before inspection, maintenance or repair. Only qualified personnel should perform electrical service where required.
Placement must also account for walls, racks, walkways, mezzanines, fire sprinklers and other obstructions according to the installation manual and applicable local requirements.
Coolee Portable Cooler Safety
Coolee portable coolers have additional safety considerations because certain models incorporate a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, water pump, fans and electrical charging equipment.
Do not short, disassemble, drill into, deform, heat, burn or otherwise misuse a lithium-ion battery. Damaged or improperly handled lithium-ion batteries can overheat, burn or explode. Dispose of lithium-ion batteries through an appropriate battery or hazardous-waste collection facility.
Use only the charging equipment and electrical connections specified for your product. Follow all battery charging, operating temperature, storage and water-use instructions provided in the applicable User Guide.
Ventilation and Operating Environment
Use each Cool Boss product only in the environment permitted by its manual.
Portable evaporative coolers require adequate airflow for effective and safe operation. When operated indoors, sufficient intake and exhaust airflow must be provided.
Do not operate Cool Boss equipment around prohibited airborne contaminants, flammable gases, flammable liquids, open flames or sparks. Required separation distances and environmental limitations vary by product, so always refer to the applicable manual for your specific model.
Inspection and Maintenance
Inspect Cool Boss equipment regularly and perform the maintenance specified for your model.
Before performing maintenance, disconnect the equipment from its power source and follow any lockout procedures required by the product manual or your facility.
Do not continue operating equipment when an inspection identifies damaged, worn, loose, missing or malfunctioning components. Remove the equipment from service until the problem has been corrected.
Never modify, disable, override or remove safety components or features.
Product-Specific Instructions Take Priority
This page contains general safety information covering multiple Cool Boss product categories. It is not a substitute for the Installation and Operation Manual or User Guide supplied with your product.
